Mummies! The Reimbursement Clock is Ticking on Your Tuck & Lift

There are many things to celebrate about welcoming a child into your life, but some of the changes that occur in a women’s body during and after pregnancy may not be so welcome. Your breasts, belly and waistline may not completely recover after you have had a baby…despite your best efforts to return them to their pre-pregnancy state.

Now it used to be that mum’s resigned themselves to living with these natural, but unwelcome changes. Today, however, more and more mothers are taking steps to rejuvenate their breasts and tummies so they can enjoy the youthful firmness that was theirs before having children.

These procedures are collectively called “mummy makeovers” (or post-maternity breast and body reshaping), and they’re the subject of today’s post.

Liposuction for Stubborn Pregnancy Weight

Hormonal changes that accompany pregnancy and lactation cause women’s bodies to store excess fat, particularly in the abdomen, thighs and buttocks.  During liposuction, excess fattydeposits will be removed, reshaping and contouring your body.

Please be aware that liposuction is not a weight loss tool. The procedure is most successful when performed on women who are close to their ideal weight and fitness.

Post-Pregnancy Breast Lift

Most mums (and their partners!) are thrilled at how their breasts become full and attractive during their pregnancy. However, there is dramatic variation in the degree to which the breasts “return to normal” after having a baby.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can change the shape of a woman’s breasts. They lose volume, which can give them a deflated appearance and/or make them appear asymmetrical because of differing size and shape.

Breast lifts are an excellent solution to this problem. Following a breast lift, the breasts are higher on the chest and firmer to the touch. The procedure can also reduce areolar size and reposition downward-pointing nipples.

If only volume is lost with little sagging, breast augmentation using saline or silicone implants becomes the procedure of choice.

Tummy Tucks for Mummies

Women’s midsections are often stretched out by pregnancy, with the skin and underlying muscles losing their tone. A tummy tuck can remove excess skin and fat. This procedure can also help erase lower abdominal stretch marks, which are often removed with the excess skin.

Breast lifts and tummy tucks are often performed at the same time. This helps to minimise recovery time and achieve coordinated and dramatic results.

Your Hospital Costs May Be Covered

Breast lifts and tummy tucks are not normally covered by insurance, but there is an exception when it comes to a “Mummy Makeover.” Even if your little one isn’t so little any more, you may still qualify for hospital costs to be covered by your health insurance for up to six years after giving birth.

If a Mummy Makeover is of interest to you, we hope you will contact our office for a no-obligation consultation. We can discuss the various options available and help you navigate any questions you have about post-pregnancy cosmetic procedures.
